The man with the moustache and the mullet on the team, Xabier Mikel is a true style icon. Coming back from a season of injury and illness in 2024, Xabier Mikel has really stood up this year as an important wingman to Tom Pidcock. He is versatile, strong and brings the good vibes on and off the bike.
He is a lover of Basque indie music and a sociable guy. At home you can find him on the Igueldo climb, his favorite road in all the world. The spark for cycling, already quite strong in the Basque people, was lit when he was five and visited the Tour de France with his granddad. He started cycling because, in his own words, he needed the exercise.
Fun facts: he was afraid of bikes and only learned to ride when he was ten. His lucky number is 13 and he has the Basque word for 13 tattooed on his arm.
Xabor Mikel is a cat person and drinks a flat white. He wears the Dottore bib shorts and his socks always go under. he is a night person and prefers rain over headwind because well, he is from Euskadi after all where rain is part of daily life.
“It’s a childhood dream coming true to be in the Giro d’Italia. This is the race I followed the most when I was younger. It’s a race that has opened her arms to a lot of Basque riders before, so it’s a really special one for me.”
