TOM – Team on Mission | Episode Two : Grow

Just a few days before our very first Grand Tour starts in Albania with Tom Pidcock as our team leader, we release episode two of our series TOM – Team On Mission: GROW.

In this episode we focus on the team aspect of racing and growing together as a team with Tom. We hear from riders Milan Vader and Xabier Mikel Azparren, head coach Carles Tur and general manager Doug Ryder on the purpose of everyone on the team on that path of growth.

We revisit the crash at Milan–Sanremo, reflect on the Ardennes Classics—where Q36.5 Pro Cycling Team celebrated a podium in Flèche Wallonne—and gear up for the Giro d’Italia.

Sports Director Kurt Bogaerts emphasizes, ahead of Milan–Sanremo (a major goal for Tom and the team), how the squad has progressed with every race since the start of the season:

“We have to put our cards on the table. The leader shows that he is in the game this year. We have the courage. Full commitment and no regrets. We belong at the front. There is respect around the team, and you guys create that!”

Although the race ended in a crash on the Cipressa, Tom praised the team despite his own disappointment:

“The team did a pretty awesome job. The way they were riding at the front, being visible, and keeping me in position was inspiring. Then we come around the corner at Cipressa, a guy in front of me crashes, and I’m on the floor. Sometimes you can’t do anything. It’s the race you dream of being part of, and then you are nowhere—you’re not even in the show,” Tom shares in the episode.

After the setback, it’s time to rise again, with the Giro d’Italia on the horizon. Growth comes from disappointment as much as from success, and the people around you help make that possible.

“Even after the disappointment, the people around you on the team are what give the atmosphere, morale, and motivation. We are on the same mission. We lift each other up and drive one another forward. We’ve now been given this opportunity to ride the Giro d’Italia, and I’m motivated to show we are worthy of being there.”
