The Q36.5 Pro Cycling Team finished the Sibiu Tour, a four-day stage race in Romania, as best team overall. Frederik Frison, Joey Pidcock, Nicoló Parisini, Walter Calzoni, Harm Vanhoucke and David de la Cruz led by DS Daniele Nieri finished on the podium in three of the four stages. David de la Cruz was second overall with Vanhoucke in fifth place. American rider Matthew Riccitello won the race overall.
David de la Cruz laid the foundations for his good result in the two mountain stages where he came in second and third with Harm Vanhoucke close behind. It was great teamwork by the entire team making sure David and Harm were in the best position before the climbs.
On Sunday – in the final, very short and technical time trial in Sibiu – Frederik Frison and Joey Pidcock finished in 11th and 12th place averaging almost 44 kilometers an hour on the cobbled streets of the medieval town in Transsylvania.
David de la Cruz said after the podium ceremony on Sunday night:
“It’s been a really nice week in Romania with a great group of riders and staff. Winning the team classification shows the good vibes there were on the team.
Personally I have mixed feelings. I am happy to jump onto the podium and have good performances in the uphill finishes. On paper it’s maybe not the highest level race but the numbers uphill were really good which makes me happy. Matthew Riccitello was the strongest in the end.
On the other hand I am sad because I would have loved to take the victory here. That was the goal for Sibiu Tour. The final time trial was a bit too short for me. I would have loved a longer one on the time trial bike but I also understand the organizers want to show off the wonderful city of Sibiu.
Next up is traveling to altitude camp which I do with a good feeling. I am looking forward to working hard for my biggest goal of the season and that’s Vuelta a España.”
